If you are in the market for a new kitchen, here are a few tips and tricks that will help you think about the functionality of your space along with the new aesthetic.
Our advice when thinking about a new kitchen is trying to imagine living in the created space. Where are you going to prepare your food? How far do you want to walk to grab your food to bring to your prep space? Is there plenty of room on each side of your cooktop to set down hot items? Is the dishwasher, sink, and trash in close proximity to each other? How is your work triangle?
Work Triangle
You may have heard the term “work triangle” before but if you haven’t it refers to the space or travel distance between your sink, cooktop, and fridge. These are the 3 most frequented areas in the kitchen and should be in close proximity for a functional working environment. In some spaces this has to be spread a little further apart from each other. If your sink is far away from your cooktop, you might consider adding in a pot filler to make water more accessible.
We strongly recommend that you leave 15 inches of space on each side of your cooktop as well as proper ventilation. This will help prevent heat damage to other cabinets and ensure a safer environment when working with hot items. You are able to set things down, set prepared food next to your cooktop when it’s ready to be incorporated into your dish, and you will feel less claustrophobic.
What are your Kitchen Pet Peeves?
We also encourage customers to think about their biggest pet peeves in their current kitchen. We receive a lot of comments about reaching to the back of a large pantry. With cabinet accessories, more often than not, we can find a solution to your problem! Pull out shelving is a great option for large pantries and really lets you maximize the amount of usable food storage without things getting lost in the back.
